Job summary

British Grooms Association is seeking a full-time Head Groom for our racing yard in Nottinghamshire. The role requires a minimum of five years in a racing yard, with responsibilities spanning welfare, training and preparation of race horses to compete at a reasonable level.

The successful candidate will manage the team daily alongside the licenced trainer, assistant trainer and management, attend races as needed, and handle driving duties for horse transport. Remote work is not applicable.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of experience in a racing yard environment.
• Experience managing a team and coordinating with licenced trainer and staff.
• Must be hard-working, professional, efficient and reliable.

Responsibilities

• Attend racing meetings as required and support race day operations.
• Drive the horse box when required and pull the trailer with a horse if more than two are racing.
• Manage daily duties alongside the trainer, assistant trainer and management team.
• Oversee welfare, training and preparation of race horses for competition.

Job Description

Due to expansion we are seeking a full time, employed, Head Person for our racing yard.

The successful candidate will need to have a minimum of five years experience working within a racing yard environment covering all aspects of the welfare, training and preparation of race horses in order to enable them to compete at a reasonable level.

They need to have the ability to manage their team on a daily basis alongside the licenced trainer, the assistant trainer and the management team.

The position demands that the successful candidate is hard working, professional, efficient and competent.

Within the role you will be expected to attend racing when needed, drive the horse box when required and pull the trailer with a horse in if we have more than two horses at a race.

This role and the requirements of it will necessitate a minimum age of 25 (for insurance purposes) and will require you to be within the weight range needed to train race horses.
