Role Purpose
To lead the growth and strategic direction of the Wealth Management and Private Banking business by achieving key performance targets—including revenue generation, client acquisition, and product development—while maintaining exceptional client satisfaction within the target market. The role also contributes actively to the overall business management and strategic planning of the Private Banking unit, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Cultivate an engaged, high-performing team through effective communication, coaching, and development.
- Partner with the Head of Private Banking to shape and implement business strategy, including performance tracking and reporting.
- Contribute strategic insights and performance reviews to senior leadership, including the CEO.
- Deliver on annual new business and revenue targets as agreed with management.
- Drive growth and profitability of the Private Banking Wealth Management portfolio through active business development and strategic client acquisition.
- Generate sales leads via internal referrals, group network, personal network, and existing clients.
- Conduct accurate risk assessments and ensure client suitability and appropriateness for Wealth Management services.
- Onboard new clients for private banking products and services in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal procedures.
- Foster a sales and service-oriented culture through staff coaching and motivation.
- Proactively manage client relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and the achievement of performance metrics including net new money, product sales, income generation, and new client growth.
Technical Responsibilities
- Manage client investment portfolios using a variety of portfolio management strategies.
- Educate and advise clients to improve the quality of their investment decisions.
- Ensure portfolio alignment with client mandates, risk profiles, and investment objectives.
- Oversee all transactions to ensure compliance with client mandates and regulatory guidelines.
- Develop and manage budgets and performance targets, ensuring consistent achievement.
- Maintain regulatory knowledge and ensure adherence to all legal and compliance standards to mitigate risk.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Private Banking.
Competency & Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversee the Wealth Management and Advisory Unit’s supervisory framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory competence requirements.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies to uphold competency and training standards.
- Monitor and assess the performance and competence of Wealth Management Advisors, ensuring proper supervision levels are maintained.
- Drive the development of advisor capability through coaching, formal training, and certification processes.
- Provide regular reports and management information (MI) to senior management and regulatory bodies.
Service Responsibilities
- Establish objective relationships with third-party providers, including fund managers, legal, tax, and property specialists.
- Represent the organization as a brand ambassador at all professional engagements both in the UK and internationally.
- Oversee middle and back-office operations to ensure timely and efficient service delivery.
- Manage client inquiries and assist with resolving issues related to daily banking activities.
- Provide oversight to direct reports to ensure accountability and excellence in service.
Experience & Knowledge Requirements
- Proven track record in private banking and investment advisory roles.
- Strong international experience, particularly within the West African market.
- Demonstrated client network in the non-domiciled segment.
- Exceptional client relationship management and business development skills.
- FCA-recognized RDR Level 4 (or higher) qualification, CISI
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to convert opportunities into revenue.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective team player with a deep understanding of client needs and internal collaboration.
