Interim Head of Waste & Green Spaces
London Borough Council
£455 per day PAYE- £6500 per day Umbrella or Deemed LTD (Inside IR35)
6 months | Hybrid | ASAP Start

I'm working with a London Boroughwho are seeking an experienced Interim Head of Waste & Green Spaces to lead a high-performing environmental services function.
This is a key leadership role managing a large frontline workforce (500+ via direct and agency routes) across a broad portfolio including waste management, street cleansing, parks and green spaces, cemeteries & crematoria, and depot operations. With up to 15 direct reports, you’ll be the strategic lead for service transformation, compliance, and innovation in line with corporate priorities and environmental policy.

Key Priorities:

Lead and improve operational delivery of all frontline waste and green space services.

Develop future strategy across waste, biodiversity, and carbon reduction.

Drive commercial outcomes while ensuring high resident satisfaction.

Lead cross-council collaboration, depot oversight, and multi-stakeholder engagement.

Deliver against MTFF targets, ensuring robust budget control (c.£29m).

You’ll be expected to lead from the front—visible on the ground, proactive with stakeholders, and confident in challenging internal and external partners to drive standards forward.
Ideal Profile:

Proven senior-level experience in waste/environmental services within local government.

Strong people leadership and operational management across complex services.

Financially astute, politically aware, and comfortable operating in high-expectation environments.

Ability to influence, collaborate, and bring energy to a large-scale workforce and strategic agenda.
