Ideal candidates will have strong knowledge of U.S. compliance, including Delaware entities, payroll, sales tax, and corporate filings. They will be hands-on, tech-savvy, and excited to implement new tools, scale processes, and build a high-performing team.

As the function grows, they will co-lead recruitment and help shape a team that matches Onside’s growth and ambition. This is a unique opportunity to lead a growing practice area and deliver seamless, tech-enabled cross-border support.

As the Head of US Accounting and Tax Services, you will be responsible for:

  • Own execution and quality of all US-facing services, including:
    • Payroll (e.g. Gusto, Rippling)
    • Federal and state tax filings (especially Delaware)
    • Sales tax compliance
    • Year-end financials and reporting
  • Act as lead technical contact for US clients
  • Collaborate with UK teams on intercompany accounting, FX, and cross-border alignment
  • Monitor and implement regulatory changes
  • Lead evaluation and rollout of US-compatible tools (e.g. Xero integrations)
  • Trial and refine workflows before scaling
  • Identify automation opportunities and build scalable systems
  • Manage onboarding and ongoing support for US clients
  • Partner with UK Client Managers for seamless global service
  • Ensure proactive communication and resolution with US stakeholders
  • Build and lead a US accounting team (hiring, training, performance)
  • Develop SOPs and training materials
  • Mentor junior staff to ensure high standards
  • Advise leadership on US tax trends and global structuring
  • Support US market presence and sales conversations
  • Collaborate on upselling strategies and client expansion opportunities

To qualify for this Head of US Accounting and Tax Services, ideally you will meet the following:
  • CPA-qualified (or equivalent) with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, and 5+ years in a US-focused finance leadership role with strong knowledge of US GAAP, corporate tax, multi-state sales tax, and payroll systems (e.g. Gusto, Rippling).
  • Familiar with US tech startups and cloud-based accounting tools like Xero; experienced in trialling new technologies and creating scalable, tech-enabled workflows.
  • Skilled in client and complaint management, with strong communication and relationship-building abilities; capable of managing a remote team’s workload, schedules, and performance effectively.
  • Adaptable, organised, and self-motivated, with strong time management; excels in fast-paced environments and is proficient in IT tools (Excel, Word, Outlook), with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

What’s on offer?

  • Fully remote role
  • Flexible work hours
  • 30 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Extra day off for your birthday
  • 6-monthly meetups in London, fully funded by the firm.
