Overview of the Role
The UK Head of Compliance will support and assist the Head of Compliance & Operational Risk, Europe & APAC, in developing and maintaining the Nuveen compliance framework and executing the compliance program to support the UK and wider Europe & APAC businesses.
The Compliance function provides advice to senior management on regulatory matters and changes, as well as independent monitoring and testing to ensure adherence to regulatory standards, internal policies, and industry norms.
This role focuses on executing the compliance program for the UK business and providing Group Compliance support to Nuveen's Europe & APAC regulated entities.
This is a key hire requiring engagement with senior leadership, local UK CEO and Directors, key stakeholders, and international colleagues, including compliance partners in the U.S. Strong communication and delivery on change initiatives are essential.
The jobholder must effectively communicate with the FCA on behalf of the business and possess credibility and gravitas to advance the compliance agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead compliance advisory and oversight activities in the UK, particularly relating to Real Estate, Sales & Distribution (GCG), Product, and Fixed Income. Support the establishment of public-side portfolio management capabilities in the UK.
- Oversee and ensure the effectiveness and implementation of compliance policies across the UK, collaborating with Europe & APAC colleagues. Conduct annual policy reviews.
- Manage the Europe & APAC Compliance Risk Assessment programme and design an effective Compliance Monitoring programme for regulated activities.
- Present Compliance papers at UK regulated Boards and Europe & APAC Governance Committees.
- Provide guidance on regulatory matters, group programmes, and regulatory changes affecting the UK business.
- Review and oversee Client Money controls (CASS) and liaise with external auditors.
- Engage with the business on regulatory issues and ensure remedial actions are followed up, collaborating with Operational Risk colleagues.
- Conduct compliance training and develop Computer Based Training modules.
- Represent Compliance in projects and initiatives as needed.
- Develop compliance contacts across Nuveen affiliates and Group Compliance.
- Oversee the Code of Ethics Compliance functions and lead group-wide policy initiatives.
- Act as Deputy Head of Compliance for Europe & APAC as required.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in compliance within an institutional asset management business.
- Extensive knowledge of MiFID II requirements related to product, distribution, and trading/portfolio management.
- Experience working in a global organization is advantageous.
- Interest in regulatory developments impacting clients.
- Experience managing compliance functions and teams.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, especially FCA regulations.
- AIFMD knowledge.
- Experience with private funds registration and distribution.
- Compliance qualification preferred; SM16 certification is a must.
