Job description

We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Head of Transport to lead and develop transport operations for one of our valued public sector clients. This is a pivotal leadership role, overseeing the delivery of high-quality transport services across multiple sites, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, and driving continuous improvement in line with organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear operational and strategic leadership for transport teams across the organisation.

  • Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant transport services, including fleet management, maintenance, and procurement.

  • Oversee non-patient and patient transport services, taxi contracts, and voluntary driver programmes.

  • Manage budgets, ensuring best value and robust financial governance.

  • Lead on service modernisation, workforce planning, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for transport-related statutory bodies and regional groups.

About You:

  • Degree or relevant professional qualification with substantial management experience, or significant experience in a senior management role.

  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage and/or Passenger Transport (or willingness to obtain the additional certificate if only one is held).

  • Proven ability to deliver against challenging performance targets.

  • Strong people management, governance, and organisational skills.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.

  • Full UK driving licence (or suitable alternative transport arrangements for candidates with disabilities).
