Job description

The Head of Testing will be responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining testing protocols for all product categories featured on The Telegraph’s Recommended channel.

This role involves collaborating with the Recommended Commissioning Editors and The Telegraph’s Insights and Analytics team to develop robust protocols and scoring systems that ensure only the best products are featured in our buying guides and reviews.

Key responsibilities

  1. Research proposed product categories and develop testing protocols for products featured on Recommended.
  2. Establish an overarching scoring system that translates into star ratings on Recommended content.
  3. Coordinate with the Recommended Commissioning Editors to acquire, track, and distribute product samples for testing to expert testers, including storage management.
  4. Build and maintain a database of product experts.
  5. Collaborate with the Insights and Analytics team to create reader panel surveys and forums to collect quantitative and qualitative data on tested products.
  6. Create and manage a product database that records historical testing data and results.
  7. Work with the syndication team to develop a portfolio of Recommended logos supported by consistent testing methodology.
  8. Coordinate with commercial teams to promote awareness of tested products across all verticals.
  9. Partner with the Recommended production team to ensure accurate and engaging presentation of testing on all digital platforms.
  10. Develop a long-term testing strategy to expand the role of testing within Recommended content, such as building reader panels or exploring testing facilities.
  11. Utilize market research skills, including survey creation and data analysis.
  12. Analyze quantitative and qualitative data effectively.
  13. Design testing protocols and scoring systems, ideally for consumer products.
  14. Apply strong analytical and communication skills with an attention to detail.
  15. Maintain a proactive attitude and curiosity about consumer insights in product reviews.
  16. Manage datasets to provide clear product recommendations.
  17. Work independently and collaboratively as a self-starter.
  18. Translate complex data sets into understandable formats.
  19. Experience with building or managing consumer research panels is beneficial.
