Overview

St George's College is seeking to appoint an inspirational Head of Tennis (maternity cover), to lead, coach and develop tennis at St George's College, Weybridge. The successful candidate will be required to work both at a strategic and tactical level, playing a vital role in the delivery of short, medium and longer term objectives at one of the best co-educational sporting day schools in the country. They will work alongside the Head of Performance Tennis to ensure that players at all levels are catered for.

About tennis at St George's College

Tennis has a rich history at St George's College, with both boys\' and girls\' programmes achieving excellence on a team and individual level. In 2021, our Junior boys\' team won the Independent Schools League and we regularly compete and win titles at a County to National level. We have produced and supported many County, Regional and National level players. It is an incredibly exciting time to join, with our world class Activity Centre offering outstanding Strength & Conditioning facilities. We have 25 courts, including an Indoor Tennis Centre, Grass courts, Floodlit Hard Courts, Floodlit Artificial Clay courts and Floodlit Astro courts. As a consequence, we host many events including the Surrey League Tennis Finals and Festivals.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and coach at all ability levels during the timetabled games sessions for each year group during the Summer Term; team practices take place after school; there is a comprehensive fixture list midweek and at weekends.
  • Coach tennis within Games sessions throughout the year, from Fourth Year up, alongside development, team and performance level sessions.
  • Lead, develop and motivate a team of staff and students; work closely with the Head of Performance Tennis and Director of Sport.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Performance Tennis to deliver high-quality coaching to students of all abilities.
  • Work as part of the PE & Games department and the wider College community where all sports co-exist. The ability to teach an additional subject is desirable but not essential.
Qualifications and attributes
  • Proven coaching record; desirable that the post holder has played or coached to a high standard.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team of staff and students; strong collaboration with the Head of Performance Tennis and Director of Sport.
  • Passionate, self-motivated, and a strong team player.
  • The ability to teach an additional subject is desirable but not essential.
