British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Technical Customs & Excise (Indirect Tax) in London.

Key Objectives and Expectations:
Technical Role:
  • Establish and maintain a robust framework of processes, controls, and governance for customs and excise compliance.
Area Lead Role:
  • Manage Indirect Tax in specified territories following Group Tax strategy and BAT standards, ensuring accurate reporting and risk management.
Responsibilities:
Technical:
  • Develop and sustain standards, policies, controls, and procedures for customs and excise compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and analyze their impact on the Group.
  • Mentor and develop knowledge management tools and processes.
  • Design and deliver training to relevant teams.
Area Lead:
  • Lead customs and excise affairs for the UK and Ireland markets, including markets with ongoing tax matters.
  • Support strategic planning and ensure compliance with all regulations.
  • Manage audits, risk reporting, and relationships with tax authorities.
  • Identify law changes and advise on their impact.
  • Support business projects, ensuring compliance and managing risks.
  • Lead and oversee internal and external audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement and team development.
Candidate Profile:
  • Ability to interpret complex technical material and communicate effectively.
  • Strong leadership, management, and partner management skills.
  • Experience managing third-party service providers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Degree and professional qualifications in accountancy, law, or tax.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in tax within large firms or multinational organizations.
  • Knowledge of international tax issues, supply chain environments, and relevant systems like SAP.
