Job description

Are you a talented Engineer with a wealth of experience in housing development & considering a move to a well-known housing association? Head of Technical to join our in-house construction senior leadership team.

This is a crucial role, responsible for leading a high-performing technical function that delivers best-in-class planning approvals and technical solutions to support our ambitious growth strategy. You’ll be a key player in enabling the successful procurement, construction, sale, and adoption of our residential developments, ensuring quality and compliance at every stage.

As a member of the operation’s regional leadership team, you need to contribute proactively to the overall development and delivery of the growth strategy. You will also be responsible for the development and maintenance and continually review all systems, processes and procedures that allow the highest level of design control for the delivery of individual developments, in collaboration with regional technical leads.

The role

  • Work closely with key stakeholders such as landowners, local authorities, county authorities and communities to build strong relationships at each step of the development process.
  • Accountable for the identification and implementation of solutions to design issues and responding to any market changes throughout the build process.
  • Support the delivery In-house construction operation by the implementation and maintenance of high-quality consultant relationships to ensure delivery to the required programme, quality, and cost.
  • Lead, manage and be accountable for the planning and allocation of workload for the technical team and provide day to day support acting as a point of escalation and as the team’s subject matter expert.
  • Manages the allocation of resource to developments according to skill set, availability, development needs and geography so that each development has the right technical capability at the right time.
  • Accountable for setting the technical budgets and ensuring costs are controlled and revenue is maximised.
  • Accountable for the development and maintenance of effective management and reporting systems, action plans and operating processes and procedures across all technical operations and ensure their full compliance with internal and external regulatory and legislative requirements.

What you need to succeed

  • Significant experience leading technical delivery for volume residential housing developments
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and lead high-performing teams
  • A strong technical background in engineering, surveying, planning, or architecture
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail
  • Confidence in navigating complex development environments
  • Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels
  • Proficiency in digital systems such as Viewpoint 4P and Microsoft Office packages
  • Able to have the ability to drive and a full UK driving licence
