Opus Vitae is supporting a leading manufacturer in their search for a Head of Technical. This senior leadership position offers the opportunity to oversee all technical design operations, lead a talented design team, and drive innovation within a dynamic, growing business.
What you could be doing…
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to the design and technical teams, ensuring projects meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.
- Manage and mentor a team of Design Engineers, supporting their development and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the design and development of bespoke security products, ensuring technical accuracy, manufacturability, and alignment with client requirements.
- Act as the technical authority within the business, offering guidance on complex design challenges and ensuring adherence to industry standards.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams, including R&D, production, and project management, to streamline technical processes.
- Implement best practices in design workflows and introduce new technologies to enhance efficiency and output.
- Maintain oversight of budgets, resources, and project timelines to ensure successful delivery of all technical operations.
- Represent the technical department in client meetings, audits, and strategic planning sessions.
- Stay ahead of emerging industry trends, championing innovation and positioning the company as a market leader in bespoke security solutions.
What we’re looking for…
- Proven experience in a senior technical or design leadership role, ideally within sheet metal design, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong background in 3D CAD (SolidWorks essential; AutoCAD experience a plus).
- Excellent knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques and design for manufacturability.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with a track record of building and developing high-performing technical teams.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance hands-on technical involvement and senior management responsibilities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Highly organised, commercially aware, and passionate about driving continuous improvement.
