We are currently seeking an individual to join this team in the role of Head of Tax, IWPB Europe.
Tax has overall responsibility for the Group's worldwide tax affairs. As trusted partners of our global businesses and Functions, the Tax team adds value through general tax advice, the identification of key tax issues and the creation of workable and insightful solutions – in all cases, adhering to the spirit and letter of the law. Tax effectively manages tax risk through strong control and governance and having a talented and engaged global tax team who lead with integrity.
The purpose of the role is to partner with, guide and provide tax controllership to the IWPB Business in Europe, providing advice, oversight, challenge and support in relation to all tax related matters. This involves managing a tax team across Europe (mostly based in the UK and Switzerland) and working closely with (amongst others) the wider IWPB Tax, Business and Finance teams alongside country tax teams.
The role holder will be the Risk Steward for IWPB in relation to customer tax risks in Europe, ensuring appropriate oversight, guidance, review and challenge takes place.
In this role, you will:
• Act as 2LoD to oversee and assist in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of documentation and reporting systems and general compliance with local and global operational tax obligations such as CRS and FATCA.
• Be accountable for ensuring that the business is aware and have processes/controls in place to deal with customers in a tax compliant manner and in line with the spirit of the tax laws in relevant markets.
• Ensure that tax matters have been appropriately considered and addressed by management and that recommendations and implications are clearly understood and implemented by relevant Business and Functional personnel.
• Ensure that an efficient and effective tax risk management and compliance model is in place as it relates to the IWPB business in Europe.
• Input into strategic initiatives for the business line in Europe and ensure that tax changes are appropriately fed into business priorities.
• Manage any tax authority interactions which are driven by IWPB business activity
• Coordinate global IWPB tax matters with relevant IWPB tax leadership.
Requirements
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
• Experience providing tax leadership and team management in Europe to the Private Bank, Asset Management, Insurance and Wealth businesses.
• International, Personal and Customer tax technical experience and skills all useful.
• Effective stakeholder and people management skills would be beneficial.
• Ability to explain technical tax issues in simple language and to come up with pragmatic and implementable solutions.
• Experience thinking commercially and having worked collaboratively in the delivery of tax advice and insight to support the Group’s strategic priorities and enhance management of tax related financial resources.
• Qualified Accountant, Lawyer, or tax relevant qualified.
The base location for this role will be London and with a hybrid working pattern.
