Job description

The Head of Supply Chain will be responsible for the effective development, operation and management of subcontractor and procurement processes, including direct engagement with suppliers working closely with the Commercial Managers and Production Operations teams.

Role: Head of Supply chain

Location: Bristol

Industry: Aerospace/Defence

Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 + Bonus, Car allowance

Reporting to: Operations Director

Direct Reports: Supply Chain Managers with potential growth to include operational staff

Security Clearance: SC (Held, or clearable)

Role

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribution to development of and implementation of Supply Chain Strategy
  • Functional management of supply chain team
  • Development of policies and refinement of processes for:
  • Supplier assessment and approvals
  • Supplier selection eg tenders, price lists, frameworks
  • Supplier management – quality, performance monitoring, expediting, problem resolution
  • Subcontracting
  • Procurement planning
  • Optimisation of goods inwards/inspection, stock control and planning
  • Continuous improvement.
  • Create environment for collaboration with other departments, such as programmes, engineering and quality.
  • Negotiate prices and terms with key suppliers.
  • Supplier relationship management.
  • Planning and forecasting, market awareness.
  • Identification and qualification of key or critical suppliers, second sources, strategic partners and monitoring of supplier risk including financial robustness.
  • Support to bids and partnering strategies and product development to assess and provide cost effective supply chain solutions.
  • Implement and monitor systems to provide traceability and parts tracking.
  • Monitoring of long lead items.
  • Obsolescence monitoring and reporting.
  • Management of protectively marked and export-controlled material.
  • Management of cryptographic devices.
  • Ownership of management processes for customer furnished items of data, equipment and tools.
  • Strategy for applying environmental regulations such as REACH, COSHH, WEEE and safety including storage and handling.
  • Social value, net zero and ethical trade practices (modern slavery, conflict minerals, embargoed material/countries)
  • Rejection of items and disposals/repairs in line with security guidance and environmental requirements.
  • Management of customer returns.
  • Reporting and record keeping in line with contractual obligations and standards compliance.
  • Shipping and logistics planning.
  • Use of Incoterms.
  • Customs procedures.

With the establishment of new factory facilities, this role will include support to production planning, establishment of a repair and maintenance supply chain and supplier warranty management for our systems integration business.
