Job description

Do you want to take the financial lead on high-level corporate investment, strategic projects and long-term planning? Are you motivated by shaping financial strategy, asset optimisation and investment analysis at scale? Would you thrive in a role where your expertise directly informs organisational growth and risk management? If yes, this could be the role for you!

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior finance professional to step into a newly created Head of Strategic Finance & Investment role. Working at the heart of financial planning and strategic investment, you will lead a talented team in delivering long-term financial modelling, analysis and reporting to support corporate strategy and major investment decisions. With responsibility for balance sheet and cashflow oversight, you will play a central role in ensuring that the organisation’s £multi-billion asset base is optimised and that growth opportunities are assessed with rigour.

The key duties of this Head of Strategic Finance & Investment will be:

  • Leading the FP&A team, managing and developing a group of highly experienced finance professionals.
  • Taking ownership of the long-term financial planning process, ensuring robust oversight of re-approvals and submissions to the Board and regulators.
  • Providing financial leadership on strategic projects, including corporate investment, asset optimisation, joint ventures and potential mergers and acquisitions.
  • Overseeing balance sheet performance reporting and embedding better monitoring across the organisation.
  • Acting as finance lead on key investment proposals, liaising with external advisors, project teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting the delivery of a new enterprise performance management system, reviewing how financial planning links with budgets and reporting.
  • Representing the finance function at senior internal and external meetings, ensuring that investment decisions are fully informed and risk assessed.

This is a high-profile role where you will work closely with the senior leadership team and play a key part in future-proofing financial strategy. You will join at an exciting time, with a new corporate strategy launching imminently, and the chance to shape the organisation’s approach to long-term asset management and investment. With oversight of significant financial projects and the opportunity to contribute to strategic growth, this is a role with real impact and visibility.

The successful candidate will be:

  • A fully qualified accountant (CCAB) with substantial post-qualification experience.
  • Experienced in financial planning, corporate investment and strategic financial analysis in a large and complex organisation.
  • Skilled in financial modelling, investment appraisal methodologies and balance sheet oversight.
  • A strong team manager, capable of supporting and motivating staff.
  • Able to influence, negotiate and build strong relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to interpret complex data, manage risk and provide insightful analysis to support decision-making.

The role is offered on a hybrid basis, with most work undertaken from home and typically three to four days per month in the office, including monthly team days.

If you are motivated by the opportunity to combine strategic financial leadership with hands-on influence over corporate investment and asset optimisation, we would love to hear from you, so do not delay in applying!
