UK & International Health Coaching Association (UKIHCA) is a non-profit professional body dedicated to advancing the field of health coaching in the UK and internationally. Established in 2018 and headquartered in Royal Tunbridge Wells, England, UKIHCA sets and maintains professional standards for health coaches, ensuring they are fully qualified and credentialed professionals working within a defined scope of practice.

About the role

The Head of Standards, Education & Training is responsible for leading the development and maintenance of the UKIHCA Professional Standards for Education and Training in Whole-Health & Wellbeing Coaching.

This role ensures that UKIHCA continues to uphold its position as the leading professional body for health coaches, advancing the recognition, respect, visibility, and professional development of health coaching nationally and internationally.

The postholder will guide external training providers and collaborate across all UKIHCA functions to ensure the highest standards in health coach education and training and continuing professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and regular review of the UKIHCA Professional
  • Standards for Education and Training in Whole-Health & Wellbeing Coaching.
  • Deliver the process to develop and publish the UKIHCA Health Coaching
  • Advanced Practice Standards for Education & Training in Whole-Health & Wellbeing Coaching.
  • Manage and facilitate the Standards Review Group and associated governance

Training Provider Engagement:

  • Guide and support education and training providers to align training provision with UKIHCA’s education and training standards and scope of practice.
  • Manage the course approval and renewal process, ensuring consistency, quality, and integrity.

Strategic Projects & Consultancy:

  • Support the delivery of new initiatives, including:
    • Work-Based Pathways (generic and articulated)
    • Supervision and Mentoring service (launching 2026)
    • External consultancy aligned with education & training standards and professional development

Communication & Resource Development:

  • Create and maintain standards-related resources (policy documents, guides).
  • Contribute to content for newsletters, provider updates, and internal/external communications.

CPD & Professional Development:

  • Promote CPD applications to training providers and support portfolio-based learning pathways.
  • Support responses to CPD approval queries and contribute to policy development.

Events & Representation:

  • Represent UKIHCA at national and international conferences.
  • Host or support webinars, workshops, and training events related to professional standards.

UKIHCA Professional Register Management:

  • Act as Registrar for the UKIHCA Register of Professional Health Coaches.
  • Lead development of the supervision requirement for the Register (from 2026).
  • Support UKIHCA in the preparation for the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) accreditation processes.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in health coaching practice.
  • Substantial, proven experience in a senior role involving standards development, quality assurance, or accreditation in health or education.
  • Demonstrable experience leading or contributing to the development of professional or educational frameworks.
  • Experience working within a professional body, health-related organisation, or educational institution.
  • Involvement in course or programme approval, curriculum review, or regulatory processes.
  • In-depth understanding of whole-health and wellbeing coaching principles, ethics, and scope of practice.
  • In-depth familiarity with UKIHCA Professional Standards for Education and Training in Whole-Health & Wellbeing Coaching.
  • Familiarity with international health coaching standards (NBHWC).
  • Knowledge of CPD, adult learning principles, and higher education quality frameworks.
  • Understanding of UK healthcare and education policy context, including statutory and non-statutory regulation.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Excellent written communication, with experience drafting policy, guidance, and professional standards documentation (similar).
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proven project management and organisational ability, including delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Comfortable using CRM systems, virtual collaboration tools ( Zoom, MS Teams), and cloud-based document management.
  • Ability to represent UKIHCA at a senior level at webinars, conferences, and cross-sector events.
  • Experience Prior experience contributing to, working with, or preparing for Professional Standards Authority (PSA) accreditation.
  • Experience designing or implementing supervision and mentoring systems in a health or coaching context.
  • Consultancy or advisory work related to professional education & training, regulation, or standards development.
Required Qualifications
  • Postgraduate or Degree in a relevant discipline (health sciences, education, psychology, public health) and Formal teaching or training qualification (PGCE, CertEd) or substantial equivalent experience in professional or adult education.
