Senior Level Opportunity: Head of Speech Writing at HSBC

The Head of Speechwriting plays a critical role in shaping the voice and messaging of HSBC's executive leadership. The role leads a team responsible for delivering cohesive and engaging internal and external communications for senior stakeholders, including the Group CEO, Group Chairman, and Group Operating Committee members.

The objective is to support HSBC's strategic and commercial goals and enhance its reputation by crafting compelling, high-impact speeches aligned with the bank's values and priorities.

Key requirements include a deep understanding of the financial sector, storytelling skills, and the ability to anticipate industry trends and stakeholder expectations. As a key advisor to leadership, the Head of Speechwriting ensures messaging consistency and enhances HSBC’s reputation through effective communication.

Responsibilities
  1. Design and implement communication plans for the Group CEO and Group Chairman.
  2. Provide strategic counsel and deliver speeches, briefing notes, and guidance on communication matters.
  3. Support quarterly financial results announcements with compelling storytelling and high-standard scripts and documents.
  4. Collaborate with external and internal communications teams to optimize video and other media usage.
  5. Develop and deliver leadership communication programs in partnership with internal teams.
  6. Build and maintain a broad network across the organization.
  7. Participate in delivering quarterly results and major corporate events.
  8. Contribute to Group External Communications, providing insights and messaging support.
  9. Join the External Communications leadership team to protect and enhance HSBC’s reputation.
Skills and Experience
  1. Proven ability to advise and build relationships with C-suite and Board members.
  2. Extensive experience in speechwriting, briefing, and internal/external communications for senior leaders.
  3. Understanding of senior leadership needs and stakeholder management.
  4. Experience with creative communications, thought leadership, video use, and measurement strategies.
  5. Skilled in risk management, media relations, and managing ambiguity.
  6. Experience working in complex, international, matrix organizations with diverse cultures.
  7. Strong knowledge of financial services, geopolitics, and macroeconomic trends.
