Head of SEU – Specialist Education Unit
Location: Norwich, Norfolk
Salary: Negotiable (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time (Permanent)

About the Role:
Our client, a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Norwich, is seeking a committed and experienced Head of SEU – Specialist Education Unit to lead a small team providing targeted support for pupils with additional needs. This is a pivotal leadership role that requires a strong understanding of SEND, outstanding communication skills, and a passion for ensuring every child can achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the provision within the Specialist Education Unit (SEU), ensuring high-quality, individualised support for pupils with SEND.

Work closely with the SENCO, senior leadership team, external professionals, and families to create inclusive support plans.

Line manage SEU staff, including learning support assistants and intervention specialists.

Monitor, assess, and report on the progress and wellbeing of pupils within the unit.

Develop strategies to support emotional regulation, behaviour, and communication in line with EHCPs and school policy.

Ensure safeguarding and wellbeing remain at the heart of all practice.

Contribute to wider school improvement through collaboration, staff training, and sharing best practice.

Ideal Candidate:

Proven experience working with children with SEND in an educational or specialist setting.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team.

Sound knowledge of EHCP processes, inclusive pedagogy, and relevant legislation.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with families and professionals.

Calm, empathetic, and solutions-focused attitude to behaviour and pastoral care.

Relevant qualifications in education or SEND (e.g. Level 3/4 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, HLTA, QTS, or equivalent).
