Join us at Stockport Council MJ Local Authority of the Year 2025

Great care starts with great leadership.

Stockport is a place of ambition, inclusivity, transformation, and compassion. We’re proud of our vibrant communities, strong sense of identity, and collective drive to create opportunities for all. This culture and commitment were recently recognised when we were named MJ Council of the Year, a reflection of the exceptional work happening across our borough. As we continue our journey to deliver better services for our residents, our adult social care services play a critical role. And now, we’re looking for a Head of Service who can help shape the next chapter for adult social care in Stockport.

This is a senior leadership role with system-wide influence. You’ll be the strategic lead for mental health, learning disabilities and autism across adult social care. Leading transformation and championing innovation, you’ll embed a strengths-based culture that puts individuals and outcomes first. You’ll play a key role in integrated health and care delivery, driving forward new models of support in partnership with health providers, the voluntary sector, and lived-experience groups.

We are seeking someone with a deep understanding of statutory responsibilities and best practice in adult social care, along with a proven ability to deliver quality at scale. You’ll be accountable for managing risk, leading improvement, and ensuring services remain financially sustainable, inclusive, and responsive. Working with key internal and external partners, including residents, you’ll ensure services are reflective of the needs of the community.

This is a role for someone with vision, purpose, empathy and kindness. Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-trust environment. You’ll be working at the heart of the council’s ambitious One Health & Care Plan, leading change that matters for our people.

At Stockport, we’re deeply committed to your growth. You’ll benefit from excellent development opportunities, tailored leadership support, and a culture that invests in your potential so you can deliver your best, every day.

Join us and help shape a healthier, more inclusive future for every adult in Stockport.
