Job description

Job Title: Head of Health and Safety

Are you an ambitious, forward-thinking, energetic health and safety professional ready for your next opportunity? Read on!

As our Head of Health and Safety, you will report directly to the Service Delivery Director. The role involves developing the existing health and safety strategy, annual safety plan, and delivering safety aspects of our 6-year business plan. You will participate as a proactive member of the Executive Team and support senior management on the company's safety objectives. You should be at the forefront of new developments in HSE, advising the senior team, implementing initiatives, and enhancing existing systems. Your leadership, management, and coaching skills will support employee welfare across the business.

Core responsibilities include:

  1. Managing and developing the strategic Security, Safety, Quality, and Environment plans.
  2. Conducting ongoing gap analyses of environmental, health, and safety management procedures.
  3. Maintaining ISO9001:2015 accreditation.
  4. Training colleagues on safe systems of work and promoting a culture of best practice.
  5. Auditing and developing risk assessments and method statements to ensure operations are managed to ALARP levels.
  6. Keeping abreast of relevant legislation and industry best practices, identifying emerging trends, and applying safety controls.
  7. Ensuring the sufficiency of the health and safety management framework.
  8. Encouraging a safety-first mindset among colleagues and participation in safety initiatives.
  9. Driving technological advancements to improve efficiency.

The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for health and safety, preferably with a degree and NEBOSH diploma or equivalent, and at least 5 years of safety management experience, including 2 years in the transport industry.
