Job summary

Colchester United Football Club is seeking an experienced Head of Safeguarding to lead policy, strategy, and compliance across the club, safeguarding all children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in activities.

The role reports to the Academy Manager & Senior Safeguarding Manager and requires collaboration with FA/EFL guidelines, staff training, incident handling, and liaison with external agencies.

Qualifications

• Experience in a senior safeguarding role within a sports setting.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, regulations, and best practices.
• Proven experience in managing safeguarding incidents and investigations.
• Experience delivering safeguarding training and education.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage safeguarding strategy and policy aligned with governing bodies.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and EFL safeguarding standards; conduct audits.
• Deliver regular safeguarding training for staff, volunteers, players and stakeholders.
• Lead on case management, investigations, and liaison with external agencies.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote safeguarding best practices.
