Job Title: Head of Risk

Location: London

Salary: £125,000 per annum

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Risk professional to join a well-established Bank based in London. The successful candidate will play a crucial leadership role in overseeing the Risk function, ensuring robust risk management practices are embedded across the business, and providing strategic oversight to all risk-related matters.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive risk management framework covering all internal and external risks.
  2. Review, update, and maintain risk-related policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  3. Monitor credit, market, operational, liquidity, and other risks, escalating potential breaches as required.
  4. Review credit proposals, internal credit rating models, and portfolio risk to ensure alignment with risk appetite.
  5. Oversee operational risk management processes, including risk registers, incident management, and risk control self-assessments.
  6. Supervise market risk activities, including daily reporting, breach monitoring, and limit management.
  7. Ensure regulatory compliance by reviewing risk reporting and adapting practices to meet evolving regulatory expectations.
  8. Develop and promote a strong risk culture across the organisation, providing training and support to staff where needed.
  9. Manage and develop a high-performing Risk team, ensuring effective succession planning, coaching, and skills development.
  10. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, senior management, and regulatory bodies to ensure risk management remains aligned with business objectives.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Extensive experience in a senior Risk Management role within the financial services sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of Risk Management frameworks, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Sound understanding of UK regulatory landscape specific to risk management.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work strategically while maintaining a hands-on approach.
  • Recognised degree or professional qualification in a relevant field.
