Job summary

Newcastle University is seeking an experienced Head of Research Computing to lead development, delivery and continuous improvement of research computing services. You will shape a strategically important capability enabling world-class research, supporting advanced computing, cloud, software and data capabilities.

You will provide strategic and operational leadership, align services with institutional policies, manage budgets, and drive innovation in a diverse research community.

Qualifications

• Experience leading teams in a complex organisation.
• Experience in research computing, IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, HPC or large-scale data services.
• Ability to manage resources and budgets and influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Research Computing team, creating a positive high-performing culture.
• Define and deliver the strategic roadmap for research computing, HPC, cloud platforms, software and data.
• Work with researchers, faculties and external partners to understand needs.
• Ensure infrastructure is secure, resilient, scalable and compliant.
• Provide expert advice and escalation for complex challenges in research computing.
• Develop service standards, performance measures and reporting.
• Champion innovation and sector engagement.
