Head of Research and Development Impact

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is "Financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow" in Asia and beyond—focusing on sustainable infrastructure. Established in Beijing in 2016, AIIB has grown to 110 approved members worldwide, with a capitalization of USD 100 billion and a AAA credit rating from major agencies.

The Economics Department leads in economic thought leadership and analysis, including macroeconomic monitoring, infrastructure needs assessment, debt sustainability, and project economics. It also publishes AIIB's annual flagship, Asian Infrastructure Finance.

The Head of Research and Development Impact will join the Economics Department, leading a team to conduct rigorous research on infrastructure topics, perform impact studies, and maintain data quality, including geospatial data.

Responsibilities

1. Conceptualize and conduct in-depth research on infrastructure, development, and finance issues.
2. Perform economic analysis of infrastructure projects and review third-party analyses to support financing decisions.
3. Lead 2-3 impact assessment studies annually for AIIB projects.
4. Support and review AIIB publications, contributing to the department's research network.
5. Develop analytical capabilities within the Bank, including geospatial and impact assessment tools.
6. Manage the Research and Development Impact team, guiding work and supporting junior economists' growth.
7. Perform additional tasks as assigned by senior management.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (preferably Ph.D.) in economics, with a strong research record, including quantitative work on development issues.
• 8-10+ years of relevant professional experience, with familiarity with international financial institutions preferred.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools, including geospatial analysis.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse, multicultural team.
• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Experience in international organizations or think tanks on similar functions is advantageous.
