Job description

Social network you want to login/join with:

Since inception in 2010, Silverstream Technologies has pioneered the commercial development of Air Lubrication (ALS) within the maritime industry. This technology reduces the impact of frictional resistance between the bottom surfaces of a ship’s hull and the water. As fuel costs increase with the introduction of green fuels, the Silverstream System will become increasingly relevant for ship owners and operators, offering a strong economic return on investment.

Following the success of the prototype solution in 2014 and subsequent commercial deployments, Silverstream has experienced significant growth over the last five years. Today, we have approximately 140 people focused solely on ALS across London, Shanghai, and Southampton. We are proud to be the industry leader and to contribute to the maritime sector’s decarbonisation ambitions.

The New Role – Head of Regulatory Affairs

We recognize the need for stronger representation among our peer groups and governing bodies, including the International Maritime Organization. To address this, we have created a new part-time consultancy role, Head of Regulatory Affairs, which will be part of the Senior Leadership team working closely with the CEO and Chief Commercial Officer.

The Head of Regulatory Affairs will play a vital role in promoting the maturity and relevance of our technology within influencing and governing bodies such as trade associations including the International Chamber of Shipping, BIMCO, SIGTTO, and others. They will also actively participate in leading maritime industry forums and engage in lobbying through government bodies.

This part-time role will be based out of our London office with extensive travel required. Although presence in Europe is also feasible, engagement will be under a consultancy capacity.

Example Accountabilities

  1. Serve as a subject matter expert on global and regional shipping regulations (IMO, EU, China), focusing on ALS deployment for operational efficiency.
  2. Collaborate with Silverstream stakeholders to align performance objectives with regulatory themes.
  3. Translate regulations into actionable insights for Silverstream and its customers, influencing R&D and investment strategies.
  4. Possess expert knowledge of industry regulatory bodies (IMO, EU) and understand regulation development, rollout, and enforcement.
  5. Manage multiple issues, interpret complex documents, identify value areas, and recommend advocacy positions.
  6. Assess financial, strategic, and reputational impacts of industry issues and policy directions.

What You Will Need To Succeed

  • A broad and relevant maritime/shipping/regulatory network, built through a successful career in the commercial shipping or maritime regulation sector.
  • Ability to act as an ambassador for Silverstream with confidence and professionalism.
  • A comprehensive understanding of maritime regulations and decarbonisation strategies in the international shipping industry.
  • Proven success in lobbying activities, ideally related to sustainability initiatives.
  • An academic background demonstrated through relevant achievements.
  • The capacity to dedicate around 8 days per month to Silverstream over an extended period.

What Legacy Could You Create?

This position offers the opportunity to ensure that air-lubrication technology is recognized within existing and evolving regulatory frameworks. Additionally, you can build an alliance of industry peers to accelerate the adoption of air lubrication technology in support of global shipping environmental goals.
