Job summary

Theo James Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Head of Quality for a Middlesbrough-based engineering manufacturer serving the energy sector. You will shape the quality strategy, lead the quality team and drive continuous improvement across operations.

You will manage audits, certifications and customer-facing quality reporting, while collaborating with senior stakeholders to deliver KPI improvements and robust QA processes.

Qualifications

• Degree or substantial senior quality experience in manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of quality management systems and audits.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma and APQP methodologies.
• Ability to lead and coach a team and work with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Set quality policies and medium- to long-term improvement plans.
• Manage internal and external audits, site inspections and corrective actions.
• Monitor performance measures and KPIs.
• Oversee customer specifications, complaints and test reporting.
• Lead supplier assessments and develop the quality team.
• Maintain management systems and certifications including ISO 9001, EN 1090 and ISO 3834.

Job Description

As Head of Quality, you will lead the quality team and take responsibility for the business’s quality strategy, systems and standards. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, you will work across operations to strengthen quality assurance and drive continuous improvement.

• Set quality policies, standards and medium- to long-term improvement plans.
• Manage internal and external audits, site inspections and corrective actions.
• Monitor performance measures, including defect and repair rates, and introduce meaningful KPIs.
• Oversee customer specifications, complaints, satisfaction and test reporting.
• Lead supplier assessments and support the development of the quality team.
• Maintain relevant management systems and certifications, including ISO 9001, EN 1090 and ISO 3834.

Skills & experience

To succeed as Head of Quality, you will bring:

• A relevant degree or substantial experience in a senior manufacturing quality role.
• Strong knowledge of quality management systems, audits and applicable industry standards.
• Experience of Lean, Six Sigma and APQP methodologies.
• The ability to lead, coach and develop a team while working effectively with senior stakeholders.
• A CQI qualification or ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification would be advantageous.
