Job summary

Streamline Search Ltd is seeking a Head of Purchasing to lead the group procurement function for a growing construction projects portfolio. You will manage supplier relationships, drive value, and support project delivery across the group.

The role requires proven purchasing experience, strong commercial acumen and a proactive, independent working style. You will liaise with pre-construction teams and manage multiple priorities, including cost control and timely deliveries.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in purchasing, procurement or buying.
  • Experience managing or developing procurement staff is desirable.
  • Strong commercial awareness with analytical skills.
  • Experience managing suppliers and evaluating quotations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Attention to detail with a practical, commercially minded approach.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Desirable: construction industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Group purchasing function, including managing and supporting the Buyer.
  • Procure materials, goods and services across the Group with competitive pricing and quality.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and monitor performance.
  • Collaborate with pre-construction teams on tenders and value engineering.
  • Issue enquiry packages, evaluate quotations, and place orders for Group companies.
  • Coordinate deliveries with site teams and expedite orders as needed.
  • Monitor market conditions, risks to project programmes.
  • Maintain procurement records and cost comparisons using Excel.
  • Resolve purchasing and invoice queries and update senior management.

Head of Purchasing

Salary: GBP50,000 - GBP55,000 depending on experience

Our client is a well-established building services and construction company delivering projects across a range of sectors.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Head of Group Purchasing to lead the procurement function across the business, managing supplier relationships, supporting project delivery and ensuring the best possible commercial value is achieved.

Head of Purchasing - Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Group purchasing function, including managing and supporting the Buyer.
  • Manage the procurement of materials, goods and services across the Group, ensuring competitive pricing, quality and availability.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manage supplier performance.
  • Work closely with pre-construction teams on tenders, procurement and value engineering opportunities.
  • Issue enquiry packages, obtain and evaluate quotations and place orders for Group companies.
  • Liaise with site teams to coordinate and programme deliveries and expedite orders where required.
  • Monitor market conditions, supply and demand and potential risks to project programmes.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, cost comparisons and order information using Excel.
  • Resolve purchasing and invoice queries and provide regular updates to senior management and the Group Board.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across the procurement function and ensure company procedures and QEMS requirements are followed.

Head of Purchasing - Position Requirements

  • Proven experience within purchasing, procurement or buying, ideally within construction or building services.
  • Previous experience managing or developing procurement/buying staff.
  • Strong commercial awareness with excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Experience managing suppliers and evaluating quotations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a practical, commercially minded approach.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to tight deadlines.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Previous construction industry experience is desirable.
