Job Description:

As the Head of Project Controls – Major Projects, you are a strategic leader responsible for overseeing SFL’s Major Projects and project control processes. Your role is to ensure that projects are equipped with the necessary control toolsets to monitor, control, and inform, enabling projects to be delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

Your responsibilities include developing and implementing project control strategies, processes, and procedures, and monitoring their effectiveness. You will manage SFL’s Major Projects schedules and cost management, while identifying and mitigating strategic and business risks. Additionally, you will lead a team of project controls professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and training.

The ideal candidate must have excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with a deep understanding of project management methodologies and tools, and a strong background in risk analysis, cost engineering, and scheduling. Being highly organized and detail-oriented is essential to prioritize tasks, manage budgets and resources, and support projects effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive P3 (Portfolio, Programme, Project) controls service, including resource deployment.
  • Guide, develop, and communicate all P3 controls processes and procedures.
  • Provide expert advice and represent P3 controls at Programme and Portfolio Boards.
  • Lead a team of project control specialists, planners, and risk managers to deliver high-quality service on major projects.
  • Ensure effective project delivery support through schedule, cost, and risk monitoring, updates, and forecasts, adhering to reporting schedules.
  • Implement project control management arrangements.
  • Set objectives for team members, review performance, conduct appraisals, and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Promote a challenging and learning-oriented environment, motivating and supporting the team.
  • Govern and assure the Project Controls function.

Education and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies:

Preferred degree or HNC/HND level qualification.

Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a lead project controls role.

Professional certification such as APM is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience with Primavera P6.
  • Proficiency in EVM processes and application in construction projects, with leadership in schedule, cost, risk, change management, and reporting.
  • Proven experience leading diverse teams.
  • Skills in PMO reporting, project controls methodologies, Earned Value Management, and change management.
  • Solid experience in cost, schedule, risk, and estimating.
  • Experience across the project lifecycle.
  • Recognized project management qualifications.
