Job description

Hello, we’re Starling. We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way. We’re a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We’re a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,000 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

We're looking for someone to lead the Asset Management Pricing function, primarily responsible for the pricing of inorganic portfolio acquisitions and forward flow opportunities and oversee the pricing of existing subsidiary mortgage products.

You'll play a key role in driving profitability and growth through expert pricing strategies and insightful analysis.

You will report into the Commercial Director - Asset Management, and will work closely with 1st and 2nd line Risk teams, Finance and Data teams. Collaboration with other group functions may be required from time to time.

Please note; this is a 15 month fixed term contract.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the acquisition pricing process for new portfolios and/or forward flow arrangements, as well as product switch commercials and/or commercial renegotiations with existing partners
  • Oversee the pricing of mortgage products offered by our subsidiaries, ensuring alignment with overall Bank strategy, returns targets and market competitiveness
  • Lead the development and on-going upkeep of the pricing governance framework for all inorganic lending asset classes across the Bank
  • Provide regular product and pricing insights to enable effective management of the portfolio and product governance
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulation and legislation changes, particularly around regulatory capital requirements, which impact the pricing models and the wider portfolios
  • Input key lending assumptions into future budgets and business plans, working closely with the wider commercial team and 1st line risk function
  • Monitor the P&L for the Asset Management division, along with returns analysis and comparisons to expectations and budget, proactively proposing appropriate actions where appropriate to do so
  • Lead and develop a team of high-performing analysts, developing a culture of continuous improvement and analytical care within the team
  • Support, where appropriate, the Finance and Treasury teams with EIR and/or CPR analysis and assumptions
  • Collaborate effectively with senior management across various departments, including Risk, Data, Finance, Treasury and Legal
  • Strong experience with either product pricing relating to lending products, or loan portfolio acquisition pricing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Deep understanding of cash flow models and financial models and their underlying assumptions
  • Good risk management awareness
  • Good understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks, legislation and accounting standards governing lending assets, including (but not limited to) regulatory capital requirements and IFRS9
  • Experience in leading a team of analysts within a banking or financial services organisation
  • Must be approachable with the ability to build relationships at all levels across the business
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; you’ll be writing papers that are shared with our Executive team
  • 25 days holiday (plus take your public holiday allowance whenever works best for you)
  • An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
  • Annual leave is increased with length of service, and you can choose to buy or sell up to five extra days off
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work and Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships
