Job summary

The Labour Party is seeking a Head of Policy Development at its Head Office in London. The post-holder will oversee the party's policymaking processes and coordinate policy engagement across internal and external channels.

Responsibilities include proactive policy development, oversight of the National Policy Forum and Annual Conference policy processes, and delivering priority policy and engagement projects, while ensuring Labour's policies and achievements are communicated persuasively.

Qualifications

• Direct and extensive knowledge of the Labour Party policymaking processes.
• Experience of developing or negotiating policy development processes.
• Ability to work in a team framework with other managers and to motivate staff.
• Good knowledge of Labour Party policy and the application of the Labour Party rulebook.

Job description

Salary: £63,586.7 (gross) per annum inclusive of London Weighting, with a fixed sum allowance of £1,195. There is the ability to progress to £70,394.81 over the next 2 years.

Current employees in banding 44-48 will maintain their existing salary.

The Labour Party is looking to recruit a Head of Policy Development. The post-holder will be responsible for managing the party’s policymaking processes and coordinate policy engagement. The role holder will be responsible for coordinating the Labour Party’s policy development and engagement, including proactive policy development, oversight of the National Policy Forum and Annual Conference policy processes, and other priority policy and engagement projects, as well as ensuring that Labour’s policies and achievements in government are presented accurately and persuasively in internal and external communications.

The successful candidate will have:

• Direct and extensive knowledge of the Labour Party policymaking processes
• Experience of developing or negotiating policy development processes
• Ability to work in a team framework with other managers and to motivate staff
• Good knowledge of Labour Party policy and the application of the Labour Party rulebook

The Labour Party’s standard working arrangement is that all employees based in headquarters in London/Newcastle attend their contracted office four days per week, Monday to Thursday. Home working is only authorised on Fridays.
