Job summary

Carrington West seeks a Head of Planning to lead and shape the Planning Service for a Local Authority. Hybrid working is available, with a demanding remit across Development Management, Planning Policy and regeneration.

The role requires high-level local authority experience, strategic leadership, and the ability to guide members and stakeholders through complex planning processes. Competitive hourly rate offered for a 5-month contract.

Qualifications

• Significant Local Authority planning experience at a senior management level.
• Strong knowledge of Development Management, Planning Policy and planning legislation.
• Proven experience leading and developing professional planning teams.
• Experience managing complex planning applications and strategic development projects.
• Strong communication skills with experience advising Members and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to operate with autonomy and professional judgement.

Responsibilities

• Oversee statutory planning responsibilities, delegated decision making and Planning Committee functions.
• Provide strategic planning advice to Members, senior officers, developers and key stakeholders.
• Lead the delivery of planning policy and support major development and regeneration projects.
• Manage teams, performance, budgets and resources to deliver an effective planning service.
• Represent the Council at strategic meetings, partnerships, appeals and inquiries.

Lead and shape a high-performing Planning Service within a leading Local Authority. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior planning professional to provide strategic leadership across Development Management, Planning Policy and wider planning functions, supporting the Council's economic development and regeneration objectives.
