Job description

Accountable for the strategic direction and leadership of the organisation’s Pay and Pensions function, developing and implementing an aligned delivery strategy and building team capability to ensure a Pay and Pensions function that delivers on the key theme of Service Excellence and demonstrates a culture of continuous improvement, in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives and values. As a member of the Finance leadership team, play a key role in the development and implementation of Finance strategy and policy.

Main Duties:
  1. Develop and implement a Pay and Pensions roadmap designed to deliver Service Excellence as the desired outcome.
  2. Manage all aspects of service delivery, including:
  • Delivery of process improvements across all key activities, delivering tangible improvements.
  • Development and management of KPIs and SLAs related to service delivery, including measurement and reporting.
  • Systems development and enhancement to drive service improvements.
  • People development and leadership aligned with the organisation's values.
  • Embedding continuous process improvement across the team.
  • Leading the Payroll team to deliver high performance, ensuring accurate and timely salary payments in compliance with legislation, policies, and deadlines.
  • Owning, developing, and enhancing Pay, Pensions, Travel, and Expenses policies and procedures, including mapping and training materials.
  • Maintaining proper procedures and controls throughout the pay and pension processing cycle to ensure data integrity and error-free payroll information, fostering strong partnerships with People and OD colleagues.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate completion of statutory and non-statutory returns, including payments to HMRC, pension agencies, courts, and trade unions, and developing systems for reporting taxable benefits-in-kind.
  • Providing financial information to management for decision-making and control, promoting good payroll practices, and maintaining high customer care standards.
  • Minimising expenditure outside payroll cycles, ensuring proper accounting, reconciliation, and reflection in the financial ledger.

Salary: Circa £70,000 Plus Exceptional Benefits
