Job Description:

Our client, a top 50 global banking brand, is expanding its Exchange Traded Derivatives (ETD) London operations and seeks an experienced professional to lead operational support functions across multiple markets. This Director-level role is crucial for driving efficiency, regulatory compliance, and project execution within a dynamic derivatives clearing environment.

This is a newly created position, with the goal to hire up to 5/6 staff and build the London function. Experience in building, growing, and leading a team is essential.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will oversee daily operations for the growing ETD clearing function, ensuring smooth trade support, system integration, and compliance with internal and external regulations. Focus areas include physical contracts and Futures & Options (F&O) clearing. Responsibilities include managing projects, client service, margin oversight, regulatory interactions, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations and trade support for London ETD activities (ICE / LME).
  • Lead the implementation of new systems and onboarding processes for emerging markets.
  • Coordinate with exchanges, vendors, and internal stakeholders on strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate trade lifecycle management, margining, and regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain and improve procedures, workflows, and documentation for compliance.
  • Oversee BCP testing and contingency planning.
  • Manage service delivery to an international client base, with regional focus.
  • Ensure data integrity in operational and reference systems.
  • Handle invoicing and reconciliation for post-trade give-up processes.
  • Collaborate with risk, IT, and finance teams to optimize operations.
  • Coach and develop team members, fostering a proactive, delivery-focused culture.
  • Once the department is established, transition to BAU and team growth/leadership.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in clearing / F&O operations, with strong exposure to settlement, trade support, and clearing.
  • Deep knowledge of clearing rules, especially in major commodity exchanges.
  • Proven leadership in operational delivery and market onboarding.
  • Ability to work hands-on while providing strategic oversight.
  • Effective communication skills to influence across departments.
  • Strong people management skills, with a track record of talent development and team building.
  • Proactive, independent thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ION XTP is a plus.

Compensation

Salary negotiable up to £130,000 - £155,000 plus a package including a discretionary yearly bonus (20%-25%), pension, and other benefits. Year 1 total compensation is approximately £200k OTE.
