Location: West Midlands

We are now seeking an experienced Interim Head of Sustainable Operations to lead our engineering initiatives and play a pivotal role in advancing our mission.

Role Overview: As the Interim Head of Sustainable Operations, you will lead and shape our sustainable engineering strategy, ensuring we remain at the forefront of innovation in the journey to net zero. Reporting directly to the Group CEO, you will oversee multidisciplinary engineering teams, spearhead cutting-edge projects, and forge strong partnerships with key stakeholders. Your leadership will empower our clients to achieve their sustainability goals through world-class engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

• Develop and implement the company’s sustainable engineering strategy aligned with our mission to achieve net zero.
• Lead the integration of sustainability principles into all engineering projects, from design to implementation.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Manage, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical experts.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Recruit and retain top talent in the field of sustainable engineering.

Division Review and Restructuring:

• Evaluate the current structure and operations of the engineering division.
• Identify areas for improvement and implement a restructuring plan to enhance efficiency, innovation, and alignment with strategic goals.
• Support the company-wide re-structure to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and sustainable growth.

Project Delivery:

• Oversee the successful delivery of complex engineering projects with a focus on sustainability, efficiency, and innovation.
• Ensure all projects meet regulatory requirements, client expectations, and sustainability standards.

Technical Expertise:

• Serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert on sustainable engineering practices, technologies, and trends.
• Stay abreast of advancements in renewable energy, energy efficiency, circular economy, and sustainable design.
• Expand the division’s offerings in Electric Vehicles (EV), Solar Energy, Heat Pumps, and Sustainable Design.
• Promote innovative approaches in materials science, energy storage, building performance optimization, and low-carbon infrastructure.
• Ensure the integration of advanced digital tools, such as simulation software and data analytics, into engineering processes.

Client Engagement and Business Development:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners.
• Identify opportunities for new projects and collaborations, contributing to business growth.
• Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and in public forums.

Governance and Reporting:

• Establish metrics and benchmarks for tracking progress toward sustainability and engineering goals.
• Provide regular updates and reports to the executive team and stakeholders on project performance and strategic initiatives.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, or related field). A Master’s degree or Chartered Engineer status is preferred.
• Proven track record in a senior engineering leadership role, ideally within sustainability-focused industries.
• Deep understanding of sustainable engineering principles, renewable energy technologies, and the net-zero agenda.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including government bodies, private sector clients, and community groups.
• Passion for sustainability and a commitment to driving positive environmental impact.
