Overview

This role provides the opportunity to lead Music in a high performing and high-profile department, working with the Director of Creative and Performing Art. The teaching and provision for Music at the Archer Academy is held in high regard, enabling outstanding opportunities and outcomes for our students. Creativity and inspiring students’ creativity are core to the school’s values. The Head of Music is responsible for securing an outstanding music curriculum, enhanced by a wide range of extracurricular opportunities that enable students to flourish and embrace their talents.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Music curriculum within the CPA department and contribute to a curriculum that stretches and challenges all students.
  • Ensure an ambitious music offer that supports Year 7 progression with enhanced provision in Year 9 and across the GCSE choices process.
  • Model high standards in teaching and learning; be a strong performer in the classroom and/or other platforms and act as a role model for the department and students.
  • Collaborate to maintain and improve GCSE outcomes; contribute to delivering consistently high attainment and progress in Music (as part of the school’s overall high achievement).
  • Coordinate a rich extracurricular program including Choirs, Orchestra, Jazz Band, MAC Composition and Theory Clubs, and a range of performance opportunities (e.g., East Finchley Festival, Whole School Musical, St Jude’s Proms, Archella and other school performances).
  • Manage the Music facilities and resources (practice rooms, specialist classrooms, MACs), and contribute to the development of spaces such as the new studio performance space.
  • Lead in the development of curriculum and extracurricular provision to raise student achievement and engagement in Music.
  • This post is offered on a part-time basis – 0.8 FTE. Flexible working opportunities may be discussed.

  • A strong performer in their own right, in the classroom and/or other platforms, with theoretical knowledge to support students’ learning.
  • The ability to lead by example and be a role model for the department and students.
Environment and facilities

The school has 5 practice rooms and two specialist classrooms, including one teaching room with electric keyboards and one with 16 MACs. A final round of fundraising has secured an additional studio space to be shared across the CPA team, with construction breaking ground this summer on the new build.
