About this opportunityWe’re seeking an outstanding leader to shape and grow our face-to-face Mid Corporates franchise — a strategically important and fast-expanding part of our Commercial Banking business. This is your chance to deliver sustainable growth and exceptional client outcomes for businesses with turnovers between £25m and £100m, while leading one of the most influential teams in our organisation.
You’ll be accountable for a dedicated national team of around 90 Commercial Regional Directors and Relationship Managers/Directors, being responsible for a portfolio of approximately 1,500 customers. This portfolio represents £200m in income, a balance sheet of £2bn in lending and £10bn in deposits, and plays a critical role in driving our commercial performance.
As part of our Relationship Management Executive leadership team, you’ll deputise for the Managing Director of Commercial Banking Coverage and influence strategic decision-making at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Growth
Define and implement a five-year strategic plan to grow the face-to-face Mid Corporates franchise, aligned with the bank’s broader commercial objectives.
Lead the investment case and growth plans for the Mid Corporates segment driving continued growth and transformation of the business in line with these plans
Work closely with the Proposition and Strategy team to develop and optimise sector focused solutions for Mid Corporates, and maintain a close relationship with Corporate and Institutional Banking Division Sector Heads
Champion the Mid Corporates client proposition, ensuring it is brought to life through a performance-driven culture and a relentless focus on client needs.
Drive origination and acquisition of high-value clients by bringing to bear the full suite of the bank’s capabilities, including lending, deposits, payments, trade, specialist solutions, and Group Partner products.
Close collaboration with Corporate & Institutional Division Leadership team to ensure that appropriate client coverage is agreed for fast growing Mid Corporates and ensuring one face to market regionally for prospective clients in and around the perimeter.
Sales & Relationship Management
Lead, coach, and inspire a high-performing team of Commercial Regional Directors and Relationship Managers/Directors dispersed across the UK.
Embed a sales culture that is client-centric, insight-led, and focused on delivering measurable results.
Act as a visible face to market and brand ambassador, representing the bank at industry events and with key stakeholders.
Risk, Compliance & Credit Oversight
Use highly developed credit skills to anticipate, assess, and manage risk in a timely and balanced manner.
Ensure all lending and contingent liabilities meet the bank’s asset quality and policy requirements.
Maintain rigorous oversight of compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards.
People & Culture
Role model inclusive leadership and foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
Invest in colleague capability through coaching, mentoring, and structured development plans.
Create capacity and succession within the team to support long-term growth and resilience.

Key Skills & Experience
Proven leadership experience in commercial or Mid Corporates banking, ideally within a UK-regulated environment.
Strong track record of delivering sales growth and managing complex client portfolios.
Scale leadership experience across a large, dispersed team.
Deep understanding of credit risk, regulatory frameworks, and balance sheet management.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
Strategic problem solver with a growth mindset and the ability to lead transformational change.
Performance Measures
Growth in income and client acquisition across the Mid Corporates face to face segment.
Increase market share and deepen share of wallet in what is an under penetrated market for the group with significant growth opportunity
Improvement in client satisfaction and Net Promoter Scores (NPS).
Asset quality and risk-adjusted return on capital (RAROC).
Team engagement, retention, and capability development metrics.
