Early Career Teacher (ECT) – Hastings

Are you looking for a supportive yet ambitious school to complete your ECT induction?

Do you have a passion for working with a range of backgrounds to provide the best possible education?

To start in September 2024, we are looking for ECTs to join a Hastings school within our network. In return for you getting involved with our students and providing an excellent education, we offer a well-structured, supportive, and personalised ECT induction.

The highlights of our ECT induction includes:

  • Support from an in-school mentor and an Ark ECT tutor
  • Training sessions both in-person and online to suit your schedule.
  • Wellbeing prioritised through an additional training module, weekly calls with your ECT tutor and an employee assistance line available 24/7
  • Goals and targets set based on you as an individual in bite sized chunks, rather than a set programme for everyone.
  • As well as being an ECT within Ark, being part of the Ark network allows you to join us in our mission of providing excellent education to all children, regardless of their background.

Some of the benefits of being part of our Hastings schools and wider network includes:

  • Each Ark school is different, although following the same values, and has its own character based on the SLT, Teachers and pupils.
  • Ark pay scales – 2.5% above current teacher pay scales for England.
  • Training – double the amount of training within working hours and additional INSET days. Allowing you to choose your own courses based on your interests and goals.
  • Career progression – ability to complete NPQ or Masters qualifications while working.
  • Enrichment and extracurricular – able to get involved in Ark Music, Ark Sport or run your own enrichment based on your own skills and interests.
  • Our four Hastings Schools: a secondary, Ark Alexandra Academy and three primaries, Ark Blacklands, Ark Castledown and Ark Little Ridge. These schools are all supported by our Regional Director, Lorraine Clarke, who was awarded an OBE in 2022 for services to education.
  • Visit our Early Career Teacher (ECT) page to apply with your CV

    Application Process

  • Ark has an ECT Pool to provide support and guidance for applicants as well as allowing them to look at a variety of Ark schools before completing an application.
  • Once your CV is submitted, if eligible, you will be contacted by our ECT recruitment advisor for an initial chat. This will be about your experience, why you want to join Ark and the roles available.
  • As part of our ECT Pool, your details are sent to the schools you have expressed an interest in. If shortlisted, you will be invited to interview directly by the school. Once an interview is confirmed, you will complete an application form.
  • If your desired schools are not currently recruiting, we will keep your details in our pool ready for when a vacancy becomes open.
  • Continued support will be available with interview preparation, lesson planning and queries about the process will continue to be available.
  • Eligibility Check

  • UK QTS – must be obtained before starting a position.
  • Right to work in the UK
  • All roles subject to an enhanced DBS check
  • Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in its academies. To meet this responsibility, its academies follow a rigorous selection process to discourage and screen out unsuitable applicants.

Ark requires all employees to undertake an enhanced DBS check. You are required, before appointment, to disclose any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands, or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Non-disclosure may lead to termination of employment. However, disclosure of a criminal background will not necessarily debar you from employment - this will depend upon the nature of the offence(s) and when they occurred.
