Job Title: Head of Marketing & Communications

Salary: £50,000 per annum

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours a week

Location: Metanoia Institute, 13 North Common Road, W5 2QB

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

About Metanoia Institute

Metanoia Institute is a well-established educational charity, specialising in the professional training programmes for counsellors, psychotherapists, counselling psychologists, supervisors, coaches and organisational development consultants. We were founded in the early 1980s and were among the first organisations in the UK to offer humanistically oriented professional training programmes. It is an exciting time at Metanoia Institute as we have launched a new strategy, applied for degree awarding powers, and aligned all we do to a new set of values.

Role Purpose

The purpose of the role of Head of Marketing & Communications is to provide comprehensive and high-profile support internally and externally across Metanoia Institute, with primary responsibility for the development and promotion of the Institute’s communications, marketing and recruitment strategies and brand development.

The postholder will support the Executive in ensuring that Metanoia Institute’s strategy and values are visible internally and externally and ultimately lived across the Institute. They will develop a marketing approach that reaches diverse audiences and assists in recruiting people from a wide range of backgrounds.

They will be responsible for all the Institute’s communications and marketing output in the broadest sense, including our digital platforms and social media approach. This will include oversight of the website and other internal and external communications platforms and processes. They will improve the student experience via recruitment and induction events, continuing professional development events and conferences. They will take a leading role working with academic staff on the design, running and data management of stakeholder surveys and feedback mechanisms through the academic cycle.

Role And Responsibilities
Communications and Brand
  • Work with the Executive to review, develop and communicate Metanoia’s brand in line with the Institute’s values.
  • Develop both internal and external communications strategies and approaches that are inclusive and aligned with Metanoia’s values and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Regularly review and update communication materials and assets.
  • Manage the Institute’s reputation, including crisis communications.
  • Work with the Head of HR to improve staff engagement and internal communications.
Marketing and Recruitment
  • Manage the student recruitment process and increase engagement from first contact to enrolment.
  • Develop inclusive marketing strategies and use data to assess their effectiveness.
  • Monitor, assess and improve marketing campaigns.
  • Evaluate cost-effective delivery of marketing activities and events.
  • Ensure compliance with advertising legislation and regulatory requirements.
Events
  • Manage institutional events including recruitment and open events.
  • Plan and execute induction events.
  • Promote CPD and conference events and organise internal staff events.
Surveys and Data
  • Manage communication for NSS, TEF, REF, and other schemes.
  • Lead Metanoia’s feedback and listening processes.
  • Collect and report data on student satisfaction and achievement.
Website and Technology
  • Oversee the website to ensure it’s engaging, accessible and up to date.
  • Ensure students have access to the latest news and resources through the Student Hub.
Relationships and Partnerships
  • Advise staff on marketing, communications, brand and events.
  • Work with suppliers and oversee freelancers.
  • Support alumni/members strategy and community building.
Management
  • Line manage the Marketing Officer with a focus on performance and development.
  • Manage an annual budget.

Essential Skills And Experience
  • Solid understanding of IT and expert marketing, communications and project management skills.
  • Experience using CRMs, Moodle, WordPress, and working in a HE environment.
  • Knowledge of student satisfaction drivers and event management.
  • Degree-level education in business, marketing, IT or a related discipline (postgraduate preferred).
  • Three years’ experience in communications, marketing and/or events (preferably in HE).
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks (CMA, OfS).
  • Experience in digital marketing and corporate social media presence.
  • Familiarity with VLEs and digital skills development.
  • Knowledge of brand development and CMS systems (HTML, PHP, WordPress).
  • Experience with content/email campaigns, SEO, and Google Analytics.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong administrative and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and reliably.
