About the role

The Head of Marketing sits within the School’s Marketing and Admissions team, overseeing all content and visual representation of the School brand. A hands-on role, the Head of Marketing will lead on all marketing initiatives, including social media, digital marketing campaigns, advertising and creative projects. The School’s marketing aims to be content driven and story led, and the Head of Marketing is responsible for telling the School story in a visual and engaging way. Working in collaboration with the Head, and Head of Admissions, the Head of Marketing, will create strategic plans to establish and enhance brand presence, allocating resources to different projects, setting both short- and long-term goals for the department, along with market research and in depth analysis.

Key responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team on strategic vision for the School
  • Front line responsibility for managing the design, production and continuing improvement of online and offline campaigns to build awareness within the target audience and help position MSJ to further grow the brand.
  • Developing marketing strategies for all marketing initiatives, ensuring our brand message is strong and consistent throughout all channels and marketing efforts
  • To manage and analyse research data to inform on brand strategy and evaluate the effectiveness of all campaigns and prepare market analysis reports, identifying opportunities to reach new market segments, monitoring competition
  • Agency / partner relationship management
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with feeder schools and community organisations to create outreach programmes, school visit opportunities, and recruitment initiatives that attract prospective students and support enrolment growth objectives
  • Liaise with colleagues to discuss project requirements from concept stage through to completion
  • Advise on design style, format, print production and timescales
  • Responsible for website management and driving new content
  • Proof reading before documentation is published and assisting the Head when needed
  • Managing key internal and external events such as Open Days and Virtual Open Days
  • Oversee and support the delivery of marketing campaigns for MSJ Enterprises

Essential Criteria

  • Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team on strategic vision for the School
  • A relevant marketing qualification and/or 5+ years’ experience working in a marketing department
  • Experience of marketing internal and external events, which will include occasional evening and weekend duties
  • Experience of a busy and sometimes pressurised office environment and the ability to balance work on several projects at a time
  • Excellent IT Skills, including experience of design software e.g. Adobe Creative Cloudsuite e.g. InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience of copy writing, outstanding written and oral communication for a range of platforms
  • Excellent time management, organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders including PR consultants
  • Ability to think conceptually and consider the messaging whether for an individual project or the overarching School’s brand and positioning
  • Line management experience for multiple roles, and ability to create management reports

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of managing a marketing team within an independent school
  • Wider qualifications within marketing or digital marketing
  • Knowledge of the independent sector, trends and the challenges
