Role

Academic Services (AcS) supports staff and students across the academic life cycle. This new role will provide university-wide support for the ongoing development of our approach to delivering excellent learning and teaching, including responsibility for leading on the preparation and coordination of institutional submissions to the Teaching Excellence Framework. The role holder will also be expected to:

  1. Contribute to the development and analysis of robust institutional evidence related to the student experience, continuation, attainment, and progression, informing the University's ongoing enhancement activities.
  2. Facilitate planning of key projects in learning and teaching, and maintain effective working relationships with professional services, academic schools, and external partners.
  3. Provide strategic support and insight for the shape and structure of the TEF submission, managing resources to support the delivery and timely completion of an optimal TEF submission.

As a member of the AcS senior team, the Head of Learning and Teaching Transformation will contribute to service-wide strategic planning, fostering a collaborative working environment that continues to enhance performance.

It is an exciting time to be joining UWE Bristol as we drive forward an ambitious programme of transformational projects to enhance the student experience. This is a new role, offering a unique opportunity for the right individual to make a real difference and have a lasting impact.

About you

You are an experienced professional services manager with a track record of leading and influencing teams to provide agile, customer-focused services. You combine advanced expertise, knowledge, and understanding of best practice in learning and teaching, with a commitment to promoting innovation and continuous improvement. Energetic and resilient, you enjoy working at pace and are comfortable with complexity and uncertainty. You have excellent communication and influencing skills and establish credibility quickly with staff at all levels. You are passionate about higher education and inspire teams individually and collectively to deliver the best possible support for students and staff.

About Academic Services

Teams throughout Academic Services are committed to enhancing the student experience and ensuring that every student can make the most of the extensive opportunities available throughout their journey. This is enabled by working closely with all areas of the University, the Students Union, and a wide range of external stakeholders.

We are responsible for developing and maintaining the comprehensive regulatory and quality management and enhancement framework that underpins the University's academic provision, including support for the academic governance structures. We ensure the quality and standards of the University’s awards are maintained and enhanced across the organization and in its current and future academic partnerships. We also help our Schools and Colleges develop relevant, sustainable, and robust curricula to maintain and enhance the quality of learning opportunities.

The development of policies to support our students and their academic endeavors is within our remit, including areas of student conduct, professional suitability, and handling complaints and appeals. In partnership with the Students Union and student representatives, we ensure the student voice is integral to our enhancement activities, facilitating sector student surveys and internal engagement strategies.

Our activities are driven by a culture of continuous improvement, implementing enhancements to support an exceptional staff and student experience.

This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus, equipped with the latest facilities and resources. Some travel to other campuses and occasionally to partners in the UK and overseas will be necessary.
