Senior Operations Manager/Business Manager - Microbiology (Food & Drink)

Campden BRI supports our customers through a range of microbiology testing, projects, and research. We offer microbiology analytical testing and consultancy services, including: analytical testing, safety and spoilage, molecular and microbiology methods, emerging microbiology, brewing microbiology research, industrial heat process microbiology, and quality laboratory audit.

You will lead the operations, projects, and research of the Microbiology department, focusing on: ensuring effective processes to meet service delivery targets; providing accurate and informative support for clients; leading a large team to deliver knowledge and quality assurance; developing scientific capabilities; managing staff resources, facilities, and equipment; overseeing budgets and financial performance; and ensuring quality, health, & safety standards.

• Leading and managing a team of 9 direct reports.
• Championing quality & health and safety initiatives.
• Providing technical advice and support to the team.
• Planning and managing budgets.
• Delivering sales and operational plans to ensure a strong business pipeline aligned with revenue and profit goals.
• Representing CBRI at conferences and events, collaborating broadly beyond just Microbiology, and partnering with the Sales team.

Requirements

• A degree in a relevant science field plus proven experience in microbiology projects and research.
• Experience in leading microbiology laboratory operations and projects.
• Extensive experience in leading teams, creating clarity, coaching, and inspiring performance.
• Knowledge of microbiology techniques and instrumentation used within the department.
• Experience in leading efficiency improvements and increasing capacity.
• Proven ability to deliver technical services in a timely and cost-effective manner.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of the needs of the food and related industries is desirable.
• Experience in implementing quality and business management systems, including ISO 17025 standards.
