A local government authority in London is seeking a leader for strategic housing planning. The role involves managing housing supply, collaborating with key sectors, and developing long-term strategies to meet future housing demand. Candidates should possess in-depth knowledge of the housing market and excellent communication skills to translate complex data into actionable plans.
Our borough is beginning a huge transformation. With ambitious regeneration plans, a need for new infrastructure, and plenty of investment on the way, things are changing. And we are transforming our organisation to be better equipped to have the greatest impact for our community. We need leaders to take us on the journey.
In a period of intense demand for housing all across London, this role is absolutely crucial in leading our strategic planning for housing supply, managing demand and addressing homelessness. You’ll play a central role in identifying and delivering solutions for immediate needs but also be looking much further ahead – assessing how demand will change over the coming years and decades and developing the strategies that will enable the Council to adapt and respond to this.
We’re looking for someone who can think holistically, and work in collaboration with other stakeholders in planning for future need. Housing touches every aspect of people’s lives, so you should be looking to collaborate with leaders in Social Care, Education, Public Health and Economic Development to develop a rounded strategic appreciation of what the current and future agenda looks like. You’ll lead on the development of long-term strategies around housing demand and supply – considering issues such as acquisition, building of new homes, and the role of the private rental sector. And this will require working in partnership with key partners within the borough and across London, including housing associations, the GLA and our neighbouring boroughs.
It's a role that requires an in-depth and current knowledge of the sector, and a current appreciation of the housing market in the south-east. This sector-specific expertise should be complemented with the ability to operate at a corporate level, seeing the connections between housing need and other strategic priorities for the Council. Strong communication and presentation skills will be vital in enabling you to translate complex evaluation and data into strategy recommendations that are accessible and meaningful to different audiences.
