About the Role:

  • Lead and manage the History department, providing strategic direction and inspiring a shared vision for excellence in History education.
  • Oversee the delivery of a high-quality History curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, ensuring that it is engaging, challenging, and relevant to our students' needs and aspirations.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of talented History teachers, providing support, guidance, and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee the organisation and delivery of a diverse program of extracurricular History activities, including debating societies, history clubs, and trips to historical sites.
  • Foster a love of History in all students, encouraging them to explore the past, develop their research and analytical skills, and appreciate the importance of historical understanding in the modern world.
  • Manage the department's budget and resources effectively.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, external examiners, and the wider school community.
  • Contribute to the school's strategic development and promote the value of History education.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Possesses a degree in History or a related field.
  • Has a proven track record of successful leadership and management in a History education setting.
  • Demonstrates a passion for History education and a commitment to student success.
  • Has excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Is confident in building rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • Has a good understanding of the National Curriculum for History and relevant examination specifications.
