Job description

Are you ready to inspire and lead?

At Co-op Academy Swinton, we are seeking a dynamic Head of History to guide curriculum development, foster collaboration, and elevate student outcomes. As part of Co-op Academies Trust, you will have the opportunity to innovate, inspire, and raise achievement levels across the school within a supportive leadership team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic History Teacher who can craft narratives that captivate students and spark their imagination. Our goal is to ensure that all students reach their full potential, regardless of background, through an ambitious, supportive, and nurturing learning environment. We value high achievement, positive behavior, and a rewards-based approach over sanctions. Our experienced pastoral team works closely with staff to support students throughout their secondary education, and we expect our teachers to embody our vision, values, and professional standards.

Why us?

Our academy caters to pupils aged 11-16. Located within easy reach of all areas of the North West, with Swinton train station less than five minutes away, we pride ourselves on a caring culture and positive relationships among staff and students. This was recognized in our recent Ofsted inspection (June 2024), where we received a 'Good' rating in all areas.

Our values align with those of the Co-op Group, guiding our behaviors and culture:

  • Self-help: We aim to do things for ourselves in the right way and at the right time.
  • Self-responsibility: Acting responsibly on-site and in the community, taking charge of our own learning.
  • Equality: Respecting and accepting diversity among our multicultural student body, ensuring equal opportunities.
  • Equity: Recognizing and rewarding achievement fairly to encourage all students.
  • Democracy: Contributing ideas to improve our academy.
  • Solidarity: Achieving more through teamwork.
Our Values

As part of the Co-operative Group, we embody core ethical values:

  • Succeed together
  • Do what matters most
  • Be yourself, always
  • Show you care

If you share these values, we would love to hear from you!

Benefits and Rewards

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Co-op membership with a 10% discount in our Food stores
  • Flexible benefits such as discounted line rental, broadband, family care advice, and cycle to work schemes
  • Discounted gym memberships and leisure activities, including Merlin Entertainments, Virgin Experience Days, SuperBreak, and more
  • Co-op Credit Union membership with competitive dividends and loan options
  • Co-op Funeralcare benefits
  • Season ticket and rental deposit loans
