Our client, based in the East Midlands, is looking to hire an Interim 'Head of Highway & Management' to lead a busy team.

Experience as Head of Highway within a Local Authority

Important

Must have Head of Highway experience within a Local Authority, with a Maintenance background.

The role reports to the Service Director: Infrastructure and Project Delivery and involves providing operational leadership, development, and management for professional services in your remit, ensuring high-quality service delivery within resources.

The responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing Highways Maintenance services such as Carriageways, Footways, Cycleways, Green Infrastructure, Drainage and Resilience, Structures, and Customer Engagement for Highways
  • Developing strategic objectives aligned with organisational strategy, best practices, and legal requirements
  • Providing expert knowledge on policies, law, and best practices, ensuring documentation and updates are maintained
  • Managing operations across service teams, overseeing planning, workload allocation, and service delivery
  • Ensuring resource deployment complies with legislation and achieves community and council outcomes
  • Developing management information and performance metrics to monitor service impact
  • Representing the County Council at stakeholder meetings and working collaboratively with partners and contractors
