The City Corporation has statutory protected assets within the Square Mile and across Greater London in open spaces including Epping Forest, West Ham Park, Hampstead Park and Ashtead Park. The City Surveyor’s Regeneration & Development Group is responsible for the conservation care across a heritage portfolio of over 800 assets. The City of London Corporation is seeking to appoint a proactive Head of Estates to lead the repairs and maintenance programme for a Heritage Estate containing an extensive portfolio of assets including high-reputational-risk projects such as the Lord Mayor’s State Coach and the maintenance of Scheduled Ancient Monuments.

This role covers all aspects of historic asset management including site inspections, preparation of technical reports on the heritage assets’ state and condition, with commentary on their social and historic values; and all aspects of managing projects for works of repair and maintenance to historic assets. This is an essential position within the Corporation, designed to evolve the Heritage Estates programme into a forward-thinking, proactive programme of works while developing talent and capability within the existing team.

What You\'ll Do

  • Set and enforce the Heritage Estate Team’s strategies, policies and repair and maintenance protocols to ensure the estate is maintained to relevant standards.
  • Be responsible for the regular programme of inspections, surveys, maintenance and repairs across the Heritage Estate.
  • Collaborate to secure funding to undertake the programme and prioritise in the event of funding gaps in a 3-year cycle.
  • Procurement and management of external expert consultants in the delivery of heritage assets in the Heritage Estate portfolio.
  • Act as champion for the Heritage Estate Team and provide strategic advice and analysis to internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Ensure the preparation, review and implementation of 20-year plans for the Heritage Estate assets.
What We\'re Looking For

  • Significant experience in leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team, preferably in a corporate-related environment with a heritage focus.
  • Experience leading strategic asset management, providing advice and guidance, and developing and maintaining forward maintenance plans.
  • Conservation experience across a broad range of heritage asset types (e.g., buildings, statues, monuments, artworks).
Why Join Us?
  • Influence major regeneration, community and placemaking initiatives for one of the world\'s most iconic and complex public institutions.
  • Join a collaborative and inclusive team committed to high performance and innovation.
  • Benefit from flexible hybrid working and strong support for wellbeing and professional growth.
  • Access a generous pension scheme, annual leave and staff benefits.
  • Help shape the future and create meaningful change across the Square Mile and beyond.
