Job Description:

We are seeking a Head of Health, Safety, Security & Environment to lead Zenobe's global HSSE strategy, ensuring compliance and fostering a strong safety culture across all markets.

About Zenobe

Our goal is to make clean power accessible, to accelerate the shift to zero carbon power and transport. We build and operate sophisticated battery systems, repurpose EV batteries, and support renewable energy and electric transport initiatives worldwide. Since 2017, we've achieved industry firsts, raised nearly £1.8 billion, and expanded into markets like the US. We're looking for talented, motivated individuals to join our growing team.

The Opportunity

Lead Zenobe’s HSSE strategy globally, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, investor, insurance, and customer requirements across all markets. Drive continuous improvement, manage compliance across jurisdictions, and embed a HSSE culture throughout the organization. Support expansion into new markets while maintaining high standards of safety, health, environmental responsibility, and security.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement a global HSSE strategy ensuring compliance across regions (UK, USA, Australia & New Zealand, Canada & Germany).
  2. Maintain compliance with legal, regulatory, investor, insurance, and customer HSSE requirements.
  3. Lead HSSE governance, integrating best practices and aligning with international standards.
  4. Collaborate with senior leadership to define internal audit requirements, policies, and processes.
  5. Establish and monitor HSSE KPIs, driving continuous performance improvement.
  6. Ensure compliance with ISO standards and adapt processes for local regulations, working with third-party specialists.
  7. Drive initiatives to enhance safety, environmental sustainability, and security performance.
  8. Develop and oversee security protocols, crisis management, and physical security risks.
  9. Investigate incidents, ensuring lessons learned are communicated and preventative measures are implemented.
  10. Conduct on-site audits and support projects during delivery and operation phases.
  11. Provide leadership on CDM regulations and manage contractor appointments.
  12. Manage third-party HSSE consultants and advisors.
  13. Foster a strong HSSE culture promoting engagement, awareness, and accountability.

Health and Safety

Contribute to Zenobe’s commitment to health, safety, wellbeing, and sustainability by integrating these principles into daily work, ensuring a safe environment, promoting mental and physical health, and adopting sustainable practices.

What We're Looking For

We encourage candidates with transferable skills and experience, even if they do not meet 100% of the criteria. We value collaborative, flexible, and empathetic individuals interested in promoting a zero-carbon future.

  • 10+ years in HSSE leadership within construction, operations, or energy sectors, managing international compliance.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing global HSSE strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of international HSSE regulations, including CDM 2015 (UK) and similar standards worldwide.
  • Experience with ISO management systems and multi-country compliance.
  • Strategic influence skills and ability to drive cultural change.
  • Hands-on leadership with coaching and training capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel internationally regularly.
  • Experience in crisis management and physical security frameworks globally.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant field (Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, etc.).
  • Environmental Management System Qualification (e.g., ISO 14001 Lead Auditor).
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Lean).

This role offers the chance to shape Zenobe’s global HSSE strategy and ensure excellence as the company expands into new markets.
