Job description

Head of Health, Safety, Environment & Quality - Gas

Our role

As Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (Gas) you will have a sense for the importance of leading change. You will play a pivotal leadership role, requiring your expertise in developing and overseeing the implementation of contract specific HSEQ management arrangements aligned with Group HSEQ standards and governance framework.

Your primary objective will be to strategically deliver the HSEQ business plan to drive continuous improvement across the [water/energy] contracts. In doing so you will ensure that risks are adequately profiled across the contracts, and ensure the operational HSEQ advisors work with the Network Plus leadership team to establish robust local systems enable growing a culture associating strong HSEQ standards with continual improvement requirements.

This role will require you to manage HSEQ Contract Leads (Managers) with a wider team of HSEQ Advisors. You will have considerable interaction with our client’s providing monitoring and assurance updates, whilst collaboratively identifying best practice solutions.

Key responsibilities

·Highlight relevant potential changes to the sector risks to the contract directly to the Contract Senior Leadership Team.

·Develop, monitor and lead strategic plans to ensure the overarching Group HSEQ systems (Second Line of Defense) are embedded within contractual requirements (First Line of Defense)

  • Ensure HSEQ policy and standards are consistently embedded across sector contracts to ensure compliance against legal and management standards.
  • Ensure sector HSEQ risks are adequately profiled, reviewed and updated at regular intervals.
  • Act as Lead Investigator for High Risk (inc. potential High Risk) HSEQ incidents for responsible area and support Operations as required.
  • Proactively identify opportunities through MI trending and analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with clients and industry partners to identify best practice and horizon scan for future initiatives.

·Implement improvement plans to develop the HSEQ culture across the contracts.

·Ensure the requirements set out within the Group HSEQ governance framework is implemented and understood across all contracts.

·Ensure effective means of monitoring compliance against HSEQ standards and provide regular management reports with supporting MI.

·Ensure the assurance framework is established, effective and consistent across each contract to adequately monitor risks.

·Build and maintain relationships with the client and external organisations where required.

·Liaise as necessary with other organisations, clients and enforcing authorities, aiding and cooperating with audits and remedial actions.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience in managing large teams
  • Experienced senior manager with high level leadership skills
  • Hold relevant HSEQ qualification, e.g., NVQ 4, NEBOSH Diploma or degree.
  • Experience in a similar role within a High-Risk environment at an appropriate managerial level.
  • Extensive root cause analysis experience with suitable qualification
  • Possess a high level of communication and negotiation skills with the ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Have excellent time management, organisational and decision-making skills.
  • Good knowledge of IT skills including Excel and databases.

Desirable

·Experience of working within the Utility Sector

  • Chartered member of IOSH and IEMA
