A quick look at the role

As Head of Health & Safety for the Centre of Excellence, your role will be to support the Group H&S Director in implementing strategies and plans to improve H&S outcomes across Biffa. You will lead and direct a team of Managers and Advisors responsible for a range of proactive and reactive tasks, all aimed at helping Biffa achieve excellence in Health & Safety.

Your Core Responsibilities

1. Lead and coordinate the development of H&S risk identification and control strategies to ensure suitable and sufficient risk management in operations.
2. Manage and motivate a team of H&S professionals and support staff to ensure competence and effective service delivery.
3. Collaborate with other business units, share best practices, promote standards, and drive continuous improvement companywide.
4. Lead, coordinate, and implement H&S improvement projects to reduce adverse events and enhance H&S performance.
5. Develop impactful H&S communications materials to support improvement projects and develop performance improvement plans as needed.
6. Establish and maintain a H&S performance monitoring program, providing data and analysis to enable proactive interventions.
7. Ensure the Group Integrated Management System is fit for purpose and maintains ISO9001/14001/45001 certification.
8. Lead H&S due diligence during mergers & acquisitions, following company procedures and confidentiality.
9. Manage EcoOnline software systems (EHS and Sypol), ensuring they meet business needs and exploring opportunities for expansion.
10. Coordinate with Learning & Organisational Development on health and safety training development and rollout.

Our Essential Requirements

1. Level 3 NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
2. Chartered Member of IOSH
3. At least 5 years supporting large organizations in developing and delivering H&S strategies
4. Experience managing integrated management systems with a customer focus
5. Experience as part of a leadership team contributing beyond functional roles
