Job description

Head of Health and Safety

Location - South Yorkshire with the option for hybrid working available

Duration - Interim for 3-4 months initially however this will be reviewed with the potential to extend further

Hourly rate - 35.00 - 44.00 per hour depending on payment method

Monday - Friday - 37.5 hours a week

Sellick Partnership are supporting a public sector organisation with the recruitment of a Head of Health and Safety to lead on driving the Health and Safety service forward, adding value to the organisation, managing a team of health and safety professionals to ensure compliance with standards and codes of practice whilst meeting statutory functions through regular audits, inspections, and accident investigations, providing robust support to senior management.

Key responsibilities for the Head of Health and Safety

  • Develop a customer-focused service that is responsive and flexible with regard to a variety of customer needs and delivered to a high standard.
  • Identify clear objectives for service delivery, including management of risk, and develop and performance manage relevant action plans to ensure effective and efficient implementation
  • Assess political pressures and agendas on service delivery and tailor plans/activity accordingly
  • Pursue best practice and value for money within the Service through the establishment of effective systems of target setting, performance management and procurement
  • Effectively manage the Service budget, ensuring spending within agreed limits
  • Manage and develop a team of professional officers and/or supervisory staff

Key areas of Knowledge & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of successful partnership and multi-agency working
  • Experience of applying risk management in setting strategy and in identifying and managing principal risks to achievement of objectives
  • Experience of successful project management and delivering services to set standards
  • Succesful track record of communicating with stakeholders and partners

Qualifications

  • Level 7 qualification e.g. Post Graduate Certificates and Diplomas with extensive experience in the relevant specialist area and other related areas of work, or a wider range of areas or evidence of the equivalent level of knowledge gained through work experience
  • Corporate member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Strategy.
  • Registered Safety Practitioner. IOSH
