Position: Head of Food Technology

Requirements:

The Food Technology department provides a dynamic, innovative, and supportive environment where engaging and varied lessons enable students to realize their potential. Students use Food Technology to enhance their well-being and as an active outlet from non-practical lessons. There is currently one other member of the department that you would be responsible for managing, who is experienced and supportive.

The school has recently renovated the Food Technology rooms, and class sizes in Key Stage 3 are capped at 21, allowing for a more personal and bespoke teaching experience. Many students choose to continue with the Food Preparation GCSE course offered by the school.

Job Description: Head of Food Technology

Heads of Department are key leaders within the school, with significant leadership and management responsibilities. They support the school's vision and ethos. Responsibilities include teaching and learning, departmental vision, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, behavior management, resources, and the learning environment.

Key Tasks:

  1. Creating a curriculum that inspires students to become effective lifelong learners by ensuring high standards of teaching and learning throughout the department.
  2. Developing a curriculum vision and plan.
  3. Creating Schemes of Learning to enable all students to become effective learners.
  4. Producing a three-year strategic plan supported by an annual action plan.
  5. Conducting an annual self-review of the department, supporting the Faculty SEF, analyzing student performance, and modifying the strategic plan accordingly.
  6. Contributing to course selection and implementation discussions.
  7. Collaborating with primary schools to ensure smooth transition for new students.
  8. Monitoring and evaluating the quality of learning, including lesson planning, delivery, assessment, differentiation, and classroom management.

To motivate and support staff within the department:

  1. Communicating a clear department vision to encourage ownership and team spirit.
  2. Line managing and developing staff to perform at their best.
  3. Meeting regularly with line managers and keeping them informed of departmental developments.

To ensure a secure and safe learning environment:

  1. Providing for students' well-being.
  2. Supporting the school's ethos in assemblies.
  3. Maintaining high standards of student behavior to facilitate effective learning.
  4. Maintaining productive communication with parents regarding progress, achievements, and incidents.
